Child Sponsorship Program

In Haiti, education is a privilege reserved for those who can pay.  Now more than ever, fewer children are able to attend school. Political strife, soaring inflation, and unstable governments have done little to help this future generation of Haiti. Global Outreach Haiti sponsors two programs in the early elementary years

Pre-K/ Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades

This is for children just starting school ages 3, 4, and 5 years old. In North America, we often take for granted that children get a chance to learn to play with toys, to color, glue, paint and have someone that looks after the best interest of our children.  In Haiti, toys are nearly non-existent. Our teachers teach basic skills like tying shoes, colors, counting, hygiene, playing with blocks, and proper social behavior.

1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade teachers cover the same curriculum as American Teachers: Reading, Math, Social Studies, History, Music, and Bible.

Afternoon School

The mission also sponsors a third small school of 96 students that meet each afternoon. This four year program is designed to give the working children a chance to improve their life situation. These are children that are forced to work in the homes of relatives or even strangers. They have had no chance to attend morning classes like other children. They often don’t even start school until they are 12 or 13 years old.

At the end of the 4-year program, these children are able to read, write, and understand basic math computations. In addition to an education, these children are also fed a Haitian dinner. Often these children would receive the leftover scraps of the home they live in or no food at all.

Ok….

You want to sponsor a child in Haiti with Global Outreach- now what?

How much does it cost? $300 US per year or  $150 US bi-annually. Please make your checks out to Global Outreach International.

What does sponsorship pay for?

Your individual support provides his or her meal for the day, books, tuition and all the supplies needed for the classroom. Your sponsorship helps to pay the overall cost of providing the best teachers we can find for our program. (Afternoon school children receive uniforms.) 100% of your tax-deductible donation goes toward sponsorship of your child or school.

How will I know what child I sponsor?

Amy Piper, our sponsorship coordinator, will connect you with a child from our village and send you the picture and personal information about your child. You will receive annual updates on your child, pictures, or a letter from Haiti.

How can I connect with my sponsored child?

You can pray faithfully for your child. You may send cards and letters via Becky. Your child faces challenges that would daunt most North American adults. Their homes have no running water, no electricity, scarcity of food and basic living supplies.

You may make your tax-deductible check payable to Global Outreach International and send to the attention of Amy Piper at the following address.
